KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Hyongbum Henry Kim, M.D., Ph.D.
Professor, Yonsei Lee Youn Jae Fellow

Talk Title:  Genome Editing and Precision Medicine

Hyongbum Henry Kim, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Pharmacology and Yonsei Lee Youn Jae Fellow at Yonsei University College of Medicine. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in nano-science and technology from Yonsei University, followed by postdoctoral training at Emory and Tufts Universities and faculty appointments at CHA and Hanyang Universities.

His research focuses on making genome editing more quantitative and predictable. His group has developed large-scale datasets and deep learning models, including DeepCpf1, DeepSpCas9, and DeepPrime, enabling computational optimization of genome editing. He has also characterized and engineered a range of CRISPR editors, including Sniper2L and enhanced prime editing systems. More recently, his group has applied saturation base and prime editing to functionalize genetic variants linked to cancer, drug resistance, and disease, including comprehensive analysis of ATM variants. His work has also demonstrated the potential of prime editing to correct disease-causing mutations in adult animal models.

Professor Kim is a Full Member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and former Chair of the Korean Association for Genome Editing.
